Today we are doing a flame lab to see how much energy certain compounds have stored.
Today we will be making borax crystal ornaments using pipe cleaners and a borax solution.
We are doing a lab today to answer the question: "Do compounds with the same elements but different ratios have the same physical and chemical properties?"
We will discuss our results tomorrow. 1. Go to google classroom.
2. Use your information from "periodic table basics" (and what we have learned in class) to answer the questions in the google doc "Periodic table basics questions remote". *If it isn't in google classroom yet I am waiting to see that you are absent today* 1. Cut the cards apart and arrange them according to atomic number in the pattern shown in the directions attached below (#3 & 4) on a large sheet of construction paper (or poster board or cardboard). 2. Glue the cards down in the correct order. 3. Add the title "Periodic Table Basics" to the top. 4. Write the name of each family and the group number at the top of the columns on your periodic table using the following information. Alkali Metals - Group 1 Alkaline Earth Metals - Group 2 Boron Family - Group 3A Carbon Family - Group 4A Nitrogen Family - Group 5A Oxygen Family - Group 6 A Halides - Group 7A Noble Gases - 8A *Have a great weekend!
1. Complete all cards for the "periodic table basics" if you haven't already.
2. Use colored pencils (or crayons) to color the periodic table basics cards according to the directions for step 2. Step 2: Use colored pencils to shade in the card for each element. Hydrogen is not colored! Green = Li & Na Pink = O & S Blue = Be & Mg Purple = F & Cl Orange = B & Al Red = C & Si Another color= N & P Yellow = He, Ne, & Ar 1. Please print out the 2 pages of element cards. (attached below)
3. Open the directions and follow step 1 directions (and print them out if you wish).
1. Please go to google classroom to access the google slide ¨Electrons_Remote¨ for the notes today. 2. Please write the information from the google slides on page 44 in your Science notebook. Please make electron dot structures for the elements on slide 5. *You don´t need to write down the information for slide 7.* 3. Watch the Ted Ed below. Please continue working on your name using chemical symbols. Pleas see the post from 12/3 to see directions if you did not see them Thursday.
Today is the last day to work on this. You can take a picture of your finished project and email it to me. [email protected] |
